Prof. Segal leads a multidisciplinary research laboratory focused on developing advanced nanomaterials-based technologies for medical diagnostics. Her group designs sensitive biosensing platforms that can detect biological markers of disease with the goal of enabling earlier, faster, and more accessible diagnosis. The lab also applies its expertise in nanomaterials and biotechnology to therapeutic delivery, food safety, and sustainable agriculture.

She has published widely in leading scientific journals and has received prestigious international recognition, including from the American Chemical Society. She also contributes to the broader scientific community through service on advisory boards of leading journals and by leading collaborative research initiatives that connect academia, industry, and international partners.

Through her research and leadership, Prof. Segal is helping advance technologies that could change how diseases are detected, monitored, and treated — while training the next generation of scientists and engineers to translate discoveries into meaningful impact.

Trained as a chemical engineer, she earned her Ph.D. at the Technion and completed postdoctoral research as a Rothschild Fellow at the University of California, San Diego.
