From classrooms and laboratories to global markets, Technion graduates are helping define how AI is designed, applied, and governed.”
AI is transforming nearly every aspect of modern life — and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology stands at the forefront of that change.
From breakthrough research to globally influential startups, the Technion has earned international recognition as a leader in AI innovation. That leadership was underscored with the release of Greenfield Partners’ 2025 AI Disruptors List, which highlights the 60 most important emerging companies in AI worldwide. Ten percent of the companies on the global list were founded by Technion graduates, a striking concentration of influence from a single institution that reinforces the Technion’s role as a hub where deep scientific research, engineering excellence, and real-world application converge.
The six Technion founded companies named to the AI Disruptors List are applying AI to critical challenges across infrastructure, healthcare, industry, and software development:
Together, these companies illustrate a defining Technion outcome: graduates equipped to translate advanced research into scalable solutions with global relevance — fueling Israel’s Startup Nation economy through job creation, exportable technologies, and AI‑driven companies that generate long‑term value for the Israeli economy while competing on the world stage.
The journey of Itamar Friedman, CEO and cofounder of Qodo, reflects the formative role of a Technion education in shaping leaders at the forefront of AI.
“Even as a teenager, I started learning software development — specifically website building,” Friedman said. He co‑founded a small company with friends that reached 40 clients before his military service. During that service, exposure to robotics drew him toward the intersection of software and the physical world, a path that led him to study electrical and computer engineering at the Technion.
Reflecting on his studies, Friedman recalled a pivotal realization: “Already in my first year, I began to realize that almost every problem in the physical world boils down to an optimization problem.” He added, “That fascinated me and pushed me to learn more and more about learning systems.”
Today, Friedman brings more than two decades of experience in algorithms and machine learning to Qodo, which is responding to a defining challenge of the AI era: maintaining reliable and secure software as AI tools generate an increasing share of code.
As Friedman explained, “The goal is to help developers understand, refine, and maintain the standards they set for themselves, at a time when much of today’s code is generated by AI tools.”
The AI Disruptors List was presented at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, with the 60 companies collectively valued at approximately $3 billion. The recognition adds to a broader pattern of international validation for the Technion:
These distinctions reflect the influence of a global alumni community of approximately 100,000 graduates, many of whom are leading innovation in technology, healthcare, engineering, and science.
As AI becomes foundational across nearly every sector, the need for institutions that combine technical rigor with practical impact continues to grow.
From classrooms and laboratories to global markets, Technion graduates are helping define how AI is designed, applied, and governed. The accomplishments recognized on the 2025 AI Disruptors List offer a clear view of what becomes possible when talent is cultivated in an environment built on excellence, mentorship, and responsibility.
The next generation of AI breakthroughs is already taking shape — guided by the same principles that have defined Technion achievement for decades.

Before Israel became a state, the Technion was educating the people who would help build it. As the country grew, its challenges called for new knowledge — and generations of Technion minds answered. This short film follows that journey, from the engineers who helped construct Israel’s infrastructure to the researchers whose discoveries strengthened its security, […]
At the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, the future often begins with a deceptively simple question: What can we do today that we could not do before? “Science and engineering have never been about yesterday’s tasks. They’ve always been about the future,” said Prof. Lihi Zelnik-Manor, vice president of External Relations and Resource Development at […]
Their study investigated fruit flies, a classic model organism in genetics. It focused on the species Drosophila sechellia, whose ancestors’ larval bodies possessed tiny hair-like structures (trichomes). These structures have disappeared over the course of evolution. In other words, the same evolutionary outcome — the loss of gene expression — emerged through several distinct molecular […]
