A young couple guarding Israel’s frontline with Lebanon got married today as they prepare for Hezbollah to attack. Hila Elbaz, 25, a university student and Kfir Asor, 25, an engineer in the Air Force, had planned a lavish wedding ceremony on Monday October 22 to be attended by family and friends in their home town of Haifa. Eliad Peretz ’13 was just 10 years old when he decided what he wanted to do in life. Assistant Professor Charlotte Vogt of the Technion Schulich Faculty of Chemistry was recently awarded the first prize of the EuroTech Future Award, which recognizes researchers who have the potential to make a difference in their field and society at large. She was cited for her work on the subject of catalysis, which she believes will be key in solving global warming. Prof. Gideon Grader from Israel’s Technion-Israel Institute of Technology was recently awarded the Grand Prix Scientifique research grant by the Institut de France for developing innovative green hydrogen technology. The Institut de France, a nonprofit organization founded in 1795 that unites five French academies, encourages research, supports creativity, and funds many humanitarian projects. Grader has developed a process — dubbed E-TAC — along with his Technion colleagues, which splits water into hydrogen and oxygen by decoupling the production of the two gasses. This is achieved by circulating electrolyte solutions at different temperatures through the electrodes.
When the world stopped due to the pandemic, so, too, did plans to explore outer space. In 2019, NASA had five missions scheduled for the next three years, which were halted due to COVID. With NASA behind schedule, Israeli-American scientist Eliad Peretz helped put the organization back on track. As a child growing up in Israel, Eliad Peretz was fascinated by space and the night sky. According to United States Patent Office data, the Technion was ranked #1 in both Israel and Europe for the number of U.S. patents granted to universities in 2021. The achievement was announced by the National Academy of Investors (NAI) in the U.S. and the Intellectual Property Owners Organization (IPO). Joan and Irwin Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute Assistant Professors Volodymyr Kuleshov and Emma Pierson were recently awarded National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development Awards. They will each receive between $400,000 and $600,000 from the NSF program over the next five years to fund their educational research projects.
