In this interactive virtual event for the ATS – Southern California community, Associate Professor Shai Shen-Orr ’00, who visited our region in 2019, updates us on how his pioneering research unlocks the potential for personalized medical treatments and sheds light on “immune age” as a better measure of health than chronological age. Although the functioning of the immune system is important in all diseases, little is known about how it deals with external and internal stressors to keep us healthy. That could all change thanks to Prof. Shai Shen-Orr’s interdisciplinary research on immune monitoring combined with Technion’s vanguard role in the emerging field of systems immunology. Relive this intimate conversation with Prof. Shen-Orr about how his work is helping battle COVID-19 and shaping how we may approach our health in the future.
This program was moderated by Heather Dula, Board member, ATS – Southern California.

As more people turn to AI chatbots for companionship, life advice, or even as a stand-in for therapy, experts say the technology offers both new opportunities and risks when it comes to mental health. Prof. Tanzeem Choudhury is the chief of health innovation in the Joan & Irwin Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute and has been studying AI and mental health for 15 years. She said AI tools are available any time, often at low cost, making it easier for people to access some form of mental health support.
