Two health institutions in the United States have added an Israeli wearable device to their roster of treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder.
The FDA-approved Prism device – an electrodes-laden cap that fits snugly over the head – was developed by GrayMatters Health (opens in a new tab), a Haifa-based company that develops digital training therapies to help the brain regulate mental health care.
Home Base (opens in a new tab), the largest private US clinic of its kind treating veterans and service members, is adding Prism to its existing PTSD programs at the National Center of Excellence in Charlestown, Massachusetts, while New York-based Fermata (opens in a new tab) interventional psychiatry practice is offering the device to help its patients manage symptoms of PTSD.
GrayMatters Health Co-founders CEO and President Oded Kraft and VP of R&D Shai Attia are both Technion alumni.

As more people turn to AI chatbots for companionship, life advice, or even as a stand-in for therapy, experts say the technology offers both new opportunities and risks when it comes to mental health. Prof. Tanzeem Choudhury is the chief of health innovation in the Joan & Irwin Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute and has been studying AI and mental health for 15 years. She said AI tools are available any time, often at low cost, making it easier for people to access some form of mental health support.
