The Technion’s story has been intertwined with Israel’s for more than a century, from laying the foundations for a new nation to shaping its future.
Mark Gaines of Highland Park, Ill., is the new national president of the American Technion Society (ATS) elected by the organization’s national Board of Directors. His term began after a unanimous vote of approval during the recently held ATS National Board meeting in Miami. “I’m thrilled to begin my tenure as American Technion Society President, and honored to be entrusted with this great responsibility,” said Mr. Gaines. “In a year when we are celebrating Israel’s 75th anniversary, and as we approach the Technion’s centennial in 2024, we have an unprecedented opportunity to elevate public awareness about the Technion’s remarkable impact….
The Technion is home to Northern Israel’s first research MRI. Located in the May-Blum-Dahl Human MRI Research Center, it is a symbol of the Technion’s ongoing commitment to scientific excellence and human health advancement. Until now, Technion researchers had no choice but to visit other facilities to use an MRI scanner—an essential tool for […]
The Wertheimers Renovate Lab for Prosthetics The late Naomi Wertheimer would remember playing hopscotch and jump rope in the schoolyard as a young girl, standard rites of passage in the 1950s. But she would also remember that a friend could only watch from the sidelines because she had a wooden leg. That memory is at the heart of a gift to the Technion to advance prosthetics — a gift that also captures the Wertheimer family’s commitment to involve multiple generations in their philanthropy. Naomi’s husband Bruce, a second-generation Technion supporter, and the couple’s four children are establishing the Naomi Wertheimer…
Blue skies and the warmth of early spring welcomed American Technion Society VIP supporters in New York City for the first in-person Presidential Forum since the pandemic. More than 130 guests and 28 speakers attended the two-day event, March 18-19, 2022, reconnecting with old friends, meeting new ones, and hearing from experts within and outside of the Technion. “It’s incredible to see you all here,” said Technion President Uri Sivan. “We haven’t met in person for over two years. And Zoom is only a partial substitute. Seeing everybody here in person, the human interaction, makes a whole world of difference.”…

Pictured Above / Melanie with her family (L to R) husband Rene, Melanie, daughter Ilana, and son Alex Many of the important things in Melanie Moreno’s life come in twos. She has two children. She has studied both biology and financial management. Now she’s found a wonderful way to double the impact of a single philanthropic gift — buying Israel Bonds in the name of the American Technion Society (ATS). “It’s a double mitzvah, a win-win,” she said. “I’m investing in Israel by purchasing the bonds and supporting the Technion at the same time.” Israel Bonds were first issued by…
Dr. Eric Albin recounts in this first-person piece why he chose to support Technion in his estate plans. Some time ago, I read that hedge fund manager John Paulson had gifted Harvard University’s engineering school the fantastic sum of $400 million. My thought was, and is, that the Harvard endowment fund has more than $40 billion, so Paulson’s gift, though very generous, would make absolutely no difference in the world. It was then that I began my personal search as to where my financial support would provide the most good for the world, for this and future generations. Technion -…
American Technion Society (ATS) National and local board member Rosalyn (Roz) August ran a successful jewelry business at a time when and in a place where women rarely went into business. So perhaps it came as no surprise when she launched an outreach program at the Technion to support women in engineering — an area where women remain vastly underrepresented. Created in 2015 with a name befitting to the onetime jeweler, The Rosalyn August Girls Empowerment Initiative, or GEM, exposes female high school students to opportunities offered by an education in engineering. Through GEM, Ms. August sponsors the yearly Tech…
