The Technion’s story has been intertwined with Israel’s for more than a century, from laying the foundations for a new nation to shaping its future.
The National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association (collectively known as NAI-IPO) has ranked the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology as one of the top 100 worldwide universities granted U.S. utility patents. The achievement is yet another international recognition of the Technion’s rigorously entrepreneurial and innovative spirit on campus — an ethos that has produced thousands of inventions from both researchers and alumni, including a device that uses AI to detect the scent of more than 23 specific disease biomarkers in a person’s breath, the USB flash drive, and a robotic suit that enables paraplegics to…

In 2019, the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology bought more than 2.3 million disposable cups, almost one million disposable teaspoons, and hundreds of thousands of other single-use items. Disposable utensils currently account for approximately 9% of waste on campus. On October 1, 2021, the Technion will stop buying disposable utensils, eliminating that source of waste altogether. The move is being led by the Technion’s Sustainability Hub under the academic guidance of Professor Daniel Orenstein, who has authored important research on the issue of sustainability at universities, and the Hub’s coordinator, Dr. Ronit Cohen Seffer. Before making this decision, the…

Dr. Eric Albin recounts in this first-person piece why he chose to support Technion in his estate plans. Some time ago, I read that hedge fund manager John Paulson had gifted Harvard University’s engineering school the fantastic sum of $400 million. My thought was, and is, that the Harvard endowment fund has more than $40 billion, so Paulson’s gift, though very generous, would make absolutely no difference in the world. It was then that I began my personal search as to where my financial support would provide the most good for the world, for this and future generations. Technion -…
When Professor Uri Sivan began his presidency in October 2019, the world was a very different place. While he was prepared to lead the Technion through many challenges, he could not have predicted weathering a global pandemic would be one of them. Yet more than a year into the pandemic, the Technion is flourishing. New collaborations with hospitals and other research institutions have been established, yielding valuable new insights in artificial intelligence (AI), health care, and sustainability. The Technion is moving full steam ahead on ambitious campus expansion plans that will keep the Technion competitive with the top universities in…

Pictured above: Students return to campus. The Technion campus opened for the 2021 spring semester on Sunday, March 21, using a model of hybrid teaching – a combination of online and frontal teaching – in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s restrictions and “green” guidelines. After a challenging year of online study, students who pre-registered and presented a vaccine certificate were able to begin returning to classrooms, campuses, and frontal learning. The Technion buildings and faculties were well prepared for the students’ return. The security unit has assigned bouncers, security guards, scouts, and certified COVID-19 inspectors on the isolated campus…
