The Technion’s story has been intertwined with Israel’s for more than a century, from laying the foundations for a new nation to shaping its future.
Assistant Professor Charlotte Vogt of the Technion Schulich Faculty of Chemistry was recently awarded the first prize of the EuroTech Future Award, which recognizes researchers who have the potential to make a difference in their field and society at large. She was cited for her work on the subject of catalysis, which she believes will be key in solving global warming. Prof. Vogt’s research focuses on carbon dioxide hydrogenation catalysis, which explores the possibility of preventing CO2 produced by large industrial plants from entering the atmosphere, and instead converting it to something useful with the help of catalysts, which accelerate…
The ancient Greeks believed that artistic training and experience are essential to the human spirit and the development of creative minds. So did Renaissance thinkers, and so does Technion President Uri Sivan. Indeed, since 2020, the Department of Humanities and Arts has expanded its mission to include new research and additional teaching initiatives in history, philosophy, ethics, music and arts. As part of this expansion, Prof. Sivan this year established the Artist in Residence program, generously sponsored by Mrs. Sonia Marschak. The Sonia Marschak Artist in Residence program aims to combine the humanities, sciences, technology, and engineering professions, and create…
‘Smart cities’ are the epitome of modern-day life — teaming with technology-based infrastructure such as sophisticated surveillance cameras, timed traffic lights, and automated garbage pickup. Right? Well, what about the human equation? Between 2017 and 2021, municipal authorities recorded an unusually high rate of elderly residents who had passed away in their homes and were found only after their bodies had started decomposing. Clearly, their absence had gone unnoticed for quite some time. “Loneliness is an important issue in life: it’s a 21st century epidemic; We must not ignore it,” said Assistant Professor Meirav Aharon-Gutman, head of the Smart Social…
What are the big scientific discoveries that will emerge from the Technion in the next 100 years? Award-winning science correspondent and journalist Ira Flatow and three leading voices from the Technion – former Technion President Peretz Lavie, Professor Hagit Attiya, and Associate Professor Ido Roll – revealed the ingredients that make the Technion so exceptional. […]
The Technion and the University of Toronto have launched an AI-based collaboration that advances the use of AI in the field of medicine. The partnership between the Technion’s Artificial Intelligence Hub (Tech.AI) – specifically Tech.AI.Biomed – and the University of Toronto’s leading Temerty Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Education in Medicine (T-CAIREM) will bring together faculty members and research students from both institutions to develop advanced responses to the medicine of the future around challenges of common interest. The venture kicked off with a joint workshop attended by dozens of scientists and research students from both universities held May…
The Technion was recently selected as an international partner for the Chicago Quantum Exchange (CQE), an intellectual hub for the advancement of science and engineering of quantum information. Based at the University of Chicago, the CQE works to connect leading academic talent, top scientific facilities, and prominent members and partners to advance research and train the quantum workforce of tomorrow. Central to the partnership will be the Helen Diller Quantum Center at the Technion, which stretches across six faculties of science and engineering: Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. More than 50 faculty…
Recently, Technion doctoral student Hadas Orgad from the Henry and Marilyn Taub Faculty of Computer Science received the Apple Scholars in AI/ML Ph.D. fellowship. It is awarded to graduate and Ph.D. students to recognize their contributions as emerging leaders in computer science and engineering and their cutting-edge machine learning research in order to support the academic research community. The recipients gain support for their research and academic travel for two years, internship opportunities, and a two-year mentorship with an Apple researcher in their field. Hadas earned her bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from the Taub Faculty of Computer Science in…
One of the American Technion Society’s most popular speaker series, the Ilene & Steve Berger Technion Visiting Fellows Program features the university’s greatest assets: its students. Known as the Berger Visiting Fellows, these select scholars represent the very soul of the Technion. Their visit provides an inspiring glimpse into the lives and minds of those […]
In this May 2023 discussion with American Technion Society donors, Associate Professor Beni Cukurel provides behind-the-scenes insights into the research and structure of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the Technion — the only faculty of its kind in Israel. The faculty’s researchers still operate from the first building ever erected – more than 70 years ago – on the Technion’s main campus, making fundraising for a new building and faculty recruitment a priority for the Technion and Israel. Learn more about the impact of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering here.

The ERC Consolidator Grants provide $2.14 million to each recipient and are awarded to scientists with 7-12 years of postdoctoral research experience to fund their explorations and allow them to pursue their most promising ideas. The five Technion recipients are: Associate Professor Nadav Amdursky, a researcher in the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry…
The David and Janet Polak Visitors Center serves as a place to gather for guests from across the world. In 2022, the center was visited by more than 15,000 people from 50 different countries. Look through the many dignified delegations who visited this year in the video above.
