The Technion’s story has been intertwined with Israel’s for more than a century, from laying the foundations for a new nation to shaping its future.
During my time with the American Technion Society (ATS), I have always been blown away by how we have cultivated a united community from different areas of the country to support the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and the State of Israel. As a testament of that commitment, we are excited to announce the incredible milestone of having raised more than $1 billion over the last decade. Regardless of our backgrounds, each and every member has made a distinct impact on the future of the Technion, thereby ensuring the future of Israel itself. Philanthropy is an essential tool, not…
A research team by Prof. Ezri Tarazi as part of the Design-Tech Lab at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology recently conducted a field project on Beqa Island, Fiji, aimed at restoring coral reefs damaged by climate change. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with marine biologists from Bar-Ilan University, led by Prof. Oren Levy, and Blue Ocean, an American NGO operating in Fiji on sustainability and social impact projects. This innovative project demonstrates how technology, design, and local knowledge can be combined to create effective, sustainable coral reef restoration solutions. Ocean warming, human activities, and other environmental…
Entrepreneur Ifat Shterenberg Toledano was 30 weeks into her fourth pregnancy when she started feeling sudden excruciating pain in her pelvis and lower back. “Basically, I became disabled,” she tells ISRAEL21c. Her horrifying medical ordeal resulted in Shterenberg Toledano establishing Treat Me, a unique platform combining Western medicine, complementary therapies and cutting-edge research. Designed for practitioners, the platform leverages research-driven data and AI to personalize each treatment, improve patient outcomes and streamline care. It incorporates all integrative care methods, from more traditional treatments such as physiotherapy, to holistic ones such as Chinese medicine, naturopathy, reflexology and more.
A groundbreaking study from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology unveils a newly discovered form of quantum entanglement in the total angular momentum of photons confined in nanoscale structures – just a thousandth the width of a human hair. This discovery could play a key role in the future miniaturization of quantum communication and computing components. The study, published in Nature, was led by Ph.D. student Amit Kam and Dr. Shai Tsesses (now a postdoctoral researcher at MIT) from Prof. Guy Bartal’s research group, in collaboration with the groups of Distinguished Prof. Moti Segev and Prof. Meir Orenstein. Additional…
A new interdisciplinary study by researchers from the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine and the Andrew and Erna Viterbi Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Technion reveals a surprising insight: local release of dopamine—a molecule best known for its role in the brain’s reward system—is a key factor in acquiring new motor skills From writing and typing to playing a musical instrument or mastering a sport, learning movement-based tasks is one of the brain’s most complex challenges. This collaborative new study reveals how the brain reorganizes its neural networks during such skill learning and uncovers the…
A rumor falsely claiming green card holders are banned from leaving and re-entering the U.S. spread like wildfire on TikTok this week, garnering more than 21 million views across dozens of videos shared by a network of nearly 40 accounts, many posing as Spanish-language news outlets to share immigration-related misinformation. The accounts have been sharing doctored videos that contain artificial intelligence-generated content and the voices of well-known professional journalists to spread misinformation about immigration and other divisive topics that tend to go viral on social media, according to Alexios Mantzarlis, director of the Security, Trust, and Safety Initiative at Cornell…
AISAP, an Israeli medical startup pioneering AI-driven diagnostics, has been recognized as one of the world’s most innovative and promising companies for 2025 by Fast Company. The company secured fourth place globally in the healthcare category, a remarkable achievement that underscores the international recognition of its groundbreaking technology and its impact on the future of medicine. AISAP was founded by Adiel Am-Shalom, a former officer in Israel’s elite 8200 intelligence unit, alongside leading medical professionals: Professor Ehud Raanani, Professor Robert Klempner, and Professor Ehud Schwammenthal. The company has raised approximately $13 million in funding from investors including Harel Insurance, Shoni…
In 2019, Israel’s SpaceIL successfully launched its robotic lunar lander, Beresheet, into space. Although the vehicle crashed on landing, the mission made the Jewish state the seventh country to make a lunar orbit and the fourth country to attempt a soft landing on the Moon. Despite that impressive achievement, Israel is not exactly synonymous with space exploration or even deep-space technology, although it does have an active space-tech sector in areas such as surveillance satellite development. Experts say now is the time to accelerate deep-space efforts because this area is expected to become significant in the upcoming decades.
First, they say they want you/ Indeed, how they really need you/ Suddenly, you find you’re out there walking in a storm… – Neil Diamond Neil Diamond’s 1981 hit song “Love on the Rocks” captures my anger, angst, disgust, and deep sense of betrayal regarding America’s elite two-coast universities Princeton, Harvard, MIT, Columbia, NYU, Stanford, and Berkeley. I did my PhD at Princeton, taught for 20 summers at MIT, visited many of the others – always, when walking their halls, with a sense of awe and affection for these sacred places where creative ideas thrived that made the world a…
Storing digital content in DNA is an emerging technology that takes advantage of the molecule’s density, durability, and low power needs. DNA can last for generations, unlike NAND flash and HDDs that degrade in years or decades, at best. It also offers a data capacity about 100 million times higher than typical data storage systems. However, retrieving data from DNA storage is a complex and rather slow process. Good news, a breakthrough made by Israeli researchers speeds up the activity by 3,200 times, reports TechXplore. A team at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology has created an AI tool that…
Israel’s oldest university is playing an integral role in tearing down walls between academia and business, helping the so-called “Startup Nation” better compete in future-facing industries at a time of rapid technological change. Technion – Israel Institute of Technology was founded in 1924, 24 years before the establishment of Israel, on the idea that if a Jewish state were to come into existence, it would first need technical expertise to develop the country. Most of Israel’s railroads, highways and bridges were designed and built by Technion grads, along with its advanced telecom infrastructure, desalination plants and electrical grid. Chip design,…
U.S. astronauts Barry “Butch” Wilmore and Sunita “Suni” Williams splashed down to Earth on Tuesday after more than nine months in space. But now, they have a new mission: recovery. Why it matters: Muscle atrophy, bone density loss and even vision changes are expected side effects of long-duration space missions. And while some of the impacts of a layover hundreds of miles above Earth are quickly reversible, others can persist. Wilmore and Williams splashed down Tuesday evening after undocking from the International Space Station early that morning. Zoom in: One prominent effect of extended time in microgravity is muscle atrophy…
