The Technion’s story has been intertwined with Israel’s for more than a century, from laying the foundations for a new nation to shaping its future.
A Technion – Israel Institute of Technology – led research team has received a Gray Foundation Team Science grant to develop an artificial intelligence-powered MRI method aimed at improving early detection of ovarian cancer, particularly among women with inherited BRCA gene mutations. The project, led by Prof. Moti Freiman of the Technion Faculty of Biomedical Engineering and the May-Blum-Dahl Technion Human MRI Research Center, was selected as part of the Gray Foundation’s latest $35 million funding round for research focused on preventing, intercepting and detecting BRCA-related cancers at earlier stages. The research brings together teams from the Technion, the University…
In a paper published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and Tel Aviv University present BetaDescribe, an AI system that translates protein sequences into natural-language descriptions, opening a new path toward understanding protein functions and accelerating drug development and material design. Protein analysis is essential in medicine and biotechnology, as demonstrated by breakthroughs such as Ozempic, a drug whose development was inspired by a peptide found in the saliva of a rare desert lizard and is used to treat obesity, diabetes and other conditions. However, experimental protein characterization remains…
Vast Data, one of Israel’s fastest-growing technology companies, is using proceeds from a recent secondary transaction to establish a NIS 3 million ($1M) scholarship fund for artificial intelligence and computer science students at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Tel Aviv University, and the Open University. The fund, established together with the Tmura Foundation, will be financed through options that Vast Data donated in its early years and that were exercised following the company’s recent secondary transaction at a $30 billion valuation. The scholarships will target students who meet academic, socioeconomic and social criteria, with the goal of expanding…
Lior Jankelson is professor of medicine and biomedical engineering at NYU, where he is a Cardiac Electrophysiologist, and serves as director of the Inherited Arrhythmia Program; as well as leading the “AI in Cardiology group”. He is an entrepreneur, a surfer, and – a proud Technion Alum! In this episode we talk about AI and […]
Mexico City’s Topos Azteca search and rescue brigade has been using Israeli technology to access areas still too dangerous for humans to enter in search of victims buried under the rubble in Venezuela’s La Guaira earthquake sites. The death toll in Latin America’s largest natural disaster in decades has risen to over 2,600, and while hopes of finding more survivors diminish, search and rescue teams are not stopping. Dozens of countries have sent personnel to the disaster areas, including Syria’s White Helmets (the Syria Civil Defense humanitarian aid volunteer organization). Despite not having diplomatic relations with Caracas for 17 years,…
“The global construction industry is facing a multi-dimensional crisis: rising demand for infrastructure and housing, severe skilled labor shortages, increasing material costs, and heavy environmental pressure,” says Eran Carmi, Founder and CEO of Shahaf PY. Born out of the development department of veteran firm Shahaf Stone & Marble, the Israeli startup is building a new generation of 3D concrete printing systems designed to propel the industry toward smarter, highly scalable manufacturing. “My career began working with my father in a basalt quarry in Tiberias. Both he and his father were stonemasons and taught me the value of craftsmanship,” Carmi explains….
Some of Israel’s most impactful technology stories begin not in boardrooms, but in the shared intensity of military service and the collaborative halls of the Technion. Armis is one such story. Founded in 2015, Armis has grown into one of the world’s leading cybersecurity companies. In December 2025, it was acquired by the American software […]
Researchers have developed a set of tools that look inside large language models to detect when they go wrong, including hallucinations, memorization of training data and other forms of unreliable output. Rather than relying only on a model’s final answer, the approach analyzes internal signals produced during computation, including activation patterns, attention maps and output probability distributions. The goal is to identify signs of failure as the model generates text. These challenges are a major focus of the research group led by Dr. Haggai Maron from the Andrew and Erna Viterbi Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Technion…
The startup company Kimba has raised $6.5 million in a Seed round. The round was led by Selva Ventures and included Resolute Ventures, Able Partners, Barrel Ventures, Palette Ventures, Supermoon Capital, Air Ventures, Beyond 22, and Fresh Fund, which was the first investor in the company. The funding was raised in two stages: $1.1 million in a pre-Seed round, followed by an additional $5.4 million in the Seed round. The company has developed an AI-based device designed to improve sleep quality through scent therapy. It was developed in collaboration with sleep and neuroscience researchers and is intended to actively enhance…
As bee populations continue to decline worldwide, an Israeli technology company is turning to artificial intelligence and robotics in an effort to reverse the trend and protect a critical component of the global food supply. BeeWise, an Israel-based agri-tech company, has developed BeeHome, an autonomous beehive designed to continuously monitor bee colonies and automatically intervene when threats to their survival are detected. The challenge is significant. Bees are responsible for pollinating nearly 75% of the world’s food crops, playing a vital role in the production of fruits, vegetables, nuts, coffee, and cotton. Yet colonies around the world are increasingly threatened…
Researchers at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology have developed a technology that allows users to control movement in AI-generated videos using simple mouse gestures, without requiring large computing resources or retraining on massive video datasets. The system, called Time to Move, or TTM, was developed by Dr. Or Litany of the Henry and Marilyn Taub Faculty of Computer Science, together with Prof. Ron Kimmel and students Asaf Singer, Noam Rotstein and Amir Mann. Litany presented the research last month at the International Conference on Learning Representations, or ICLR 2026, in Brazil. The conference is considered one of the…
An innovative technology developed by researchers at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology could lead to a fundamental shift in the cancer treatment paradigm. They created advanced nanoparticles that successfully halt aggressive triple-negative breast cancer tumors – without releasing a single drug molecule. The particles operate through a sophisticated interaction with the immune system, changing the rules of the game by delivering a biological message to the tumor microenvironment and to immune system cells. Published in ACS Nano, the study was led by Ph.D. candidate Ofri Vizenblit, with the assistance of Ph.D. candidate Rawan Mhajne, under the supervision of…
