The Technion’s story has been intertwined with Israel’s for more than a century, from laying the foundations for a new nation to shaping its future.
The consumption of soft drinks, supplemented with white sugar, alters the DNA of gut bacteria and affects the host immune system. The good news? These effects are reversible. Findings by researchers from the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology—Professor Naama Geva-Zatorsky, Ph.D. student Noa Gal-Mandelbaum and other members of the Geva-Zatorsky team—were recently published in Nature Communications. Tamar Ziv and the Smoler Proteomics Center at the Technion assisted with the research. Gut bacteria are important members of the microbial community within the human body, i.e., the microbiome. These bacteria, which have…

In days when many students find themselves cut off from educational frameworks due to war, evacuation or instability – the “Focus Hour” project proves how a single initiative, born out of chaos, can become an island of routine and learning. This is a volunteer project that provides free private lessons via Zoom to evacuee students from all over the country. So far, hundreds of volunteers have participated in it and hundreds of students have benefited from it, and it doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon. It all started with a sense of frustration. Ohad Tshuva, an electrical engineering…

Storing digital content in DNA is an emerging technology that takes advantage of the molecule’s density, durability, and low power needs. DNA can last for generations, unlike NAND flash and HDDs that degrade in years or decades, at best. It also offers a data capacity about 100 million times higher than typical data storage systems. However, retrieving data from DNA storage is a complex and rather slow process. Good news, a breakthrough made by Israeli researchers speeds up the activity by 3,200 times, reports TechXplore. A team at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology has created an AI tool that…
Israel’s oldest university is playing an integral role in tearing down walls between academia and business, helping the so-called “Startup Nation” better compete in future-facing industries at a time of rapid technological change. Technion – Israel Institute of Technology was founded in 1924, 24 years before the establishment of Israel, on the idea that if a Jewish state were to come into existence, it would first need technical expertise to develop the country. Most of Israel’s railroads, highways and bridges were designed and built by Technion grads, along with its advanced telecom infrastructure, desalination plants and electrical grid. Chip design,…
