Technion Professor Noam Adir’s creativity knows no bounds. He has invented spinach-powered electricity cells, as well as technology to harvest energy from photosynthetic bacteria found in ponds.
In this webinar, Prof. Adir talks about his equally exciting biomedical research, studying proteins that can serve as targets for novel drug development. He and his research team use X-ray crystallography to determine the 3D structure and function of biologically important molecules on the atomic level, a critical tool in finding new treatments. They have deposited nearly 50 structures in the Protein Data Bank, which archives the 3D structures of biological molecules found in all organisms from bacteria to humans.
Noam Adir holds the Bertha Hertz-Axel Chair in Chemistry in the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry at the Technion. His research focuses on the relationship between the 3D structure of proteins, such as enzymes, and their function.
Professor Alon Wolf joins to give an update about research and the campus-wide measures being taken both for students and professors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prof. Wolf is Vice President for External Relations & Resource Development. A renowned researcher and entrepreneur, he has pioneered new frontiers in robotic technologies, and is the founder and director of the Biorobotics and Biomechanics Lab (BRML) in the Technion Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

What if diagnosing cancer, Parkinson’s disease, or other serious illnesses could be as simple as breathing into a handheld device? That possibility is moving closer to reality thanks to the work of the Technion’s Prof. Hossam Haick, whose groundbreaking research is changing how diseases are detected around the world. In recognition of his extraordinary achievements, […]
Every year, the European Research Council (ERC) identifies some of the world’s most promising early-career researchers and gives them the freedom to pursue bold ideas. This year, two of those ideas came from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. From cancer research to artificial intelligence (AI), breakthroughs that shape the future often begin with […]
As more people turn to AI chatbots for companionship, life advice, or even as a stand-in for therapy, experts say the technology offers both new opportunities and risks when it comes to mental health. Prof. Tanzeem Choudhury is the chief of health innovation in the Joan & Irwin Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute and has been studying AI and mental health for 15 years. She said AI tools are available any time, often at low cost, making it easier for people to access some form of mental health support.
