The Technion’s story has been intertwined with Israel’s for more than a century, from laying the foundations for a new nation to shaping its future.
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the Technion inaugurated the Uzia Galil Foyer in the Andrew and Erna Viterbi Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The foyer was named after the founder of Elbit Systems and other companies. The ceremony was attended by Galil’s family and Elbit Systems management including president and CEO Bezhalel (Butsi) Machlis and former Elbit Systems Board Chairman Miki Federman. Technion President Prof. Uri Sivan, Dean of the Viterbi Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering Prof. Idit Keidar, and Chairman of the Israel Friends of Technion Association, Prof. Peretz Lavie, were also in attendance. The foyer, which…
Our Response to October 7 and the War When our 2024 fiscal year started on October 1, 2023, we were excited to begin celebrating the Technion’s centennial year with festive events throughout the country. We could never have conceived of the horrific events that would unfold in Israel only one week later. The Technion and the American Technion Society quickly pivoted to address the needs of a country and a student body at war. The start of the academic year for all Israeli universities was postponed from October to January. Due to our large percentage of student reservists and the…
In the wake of the tragic events of October 7, Technion alumnus Sagi Alony ’04, an environmental management consultant, initiated a large-scale project to collect and document testimonies from survivors of the terrorist attacks. The project, named Edut 710 (Eyewitness Testimony 7th of October), is a grassroots effort to ensure the stories of those affected […]
Technion student reservist N.H.’s outlook on the future is grounded in optimism and resilience. “I think that choosing to live, choosing to wake up every single morning and still come to campus and still learn and still study and get married is the biggest thing we can do as the Jewish nation, as the Israeli nation,” she reflected. “We’re here forever.” N.H. and her husband got married amidst the early chaos of the war with Hamas while both serving in the reserves. Though they couldn’t live together at first, they eventually found time to reunite, juggling early mornings and long…

This Rosh HaShanah, we pray for the people and State of Israel. We pray for their safety, for healing, for resilience, and for peace. On behalf of the American Technion Society and the Technion, we wish you and your loved ones a very happy new year. Shanah Tovah!
In the year since the horrific and devastating attacks of October 7, 2023, our world has completely changed. More than one thousand Israelis lost their lives that day – a tragedy that we will never forget. As we reflect and hope for the hostages’ safe return, one thing has become clear: Israeli resilience has never been stronger. As people around Israel woke up to a new reality on October 8, 2023, so too did the students and staff at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. To commemorate this tragic anniversary and honor the bravery of all those called to…
As we mark the tragic anniversary of October 7, we honor the incredible spirit of resilience, resolve, and response expressed by Israelis throughout the nation. Following the initial days of trauma and devastation, Israelis refused to be victims and took action. They volunteered by the thousands to help their fellow citizens in need. And the Technion community was among them. Beyond all that the Technion administration did to support students and secure the campus, the Technion Student Association, academic departments and faculties, and staff displayed inspiring solidarity. The collective spirit of volunteerism was truly remarkable and played an active and…
M.A. is a third-year undergraduate in the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering. He is also a reserve solider in the Egoz, an elite commando unit specializing in guerrilla warfare. On October 7, he was ordered to immediately join his unit. He was deployed to the South, fighting the terrorists who infiltrated the country. “Fighting was fierce in the kibbutzim,” he said. When the terrorists were eliminated from Israel, his unit was sent to fight Hamas in Gaza. For more than three months, M.A. was involved in intense combat. Cell phones were not permitted, and he couldn’t communicate with his…
Technion alumna Dr. Anastasia Braginsky works full time in the high-tech industry, teaches at the University, is a professional dancer, a ballroom dance instructor, and a mother of two, and not necessarily in that order. How does she do it all? “Proper time management, without movies, TV, and other distractions,” she said. “I love everything I do and don’t want to give any of it up, so I need to be focused and efficient on all fronts. I have no doubt it’s worth it.” Her daily schedule is divided into half-hour slots, with a task appearing in her app every…
A.J. searched several jewelry stores to find the perfect wedding ring for his fiancée, but nothing was quite right. So being the Technion student he is, he taught himself 3D modeling, designed it in 3D software, found the stone he wanted, and searched for the perfect jeweler and goldsmith to put it together. That’s before arranging for a friend of a friend to stealthily deliver the ring to him in Vienna, check that the sun would shine in just the right spot in the botanical garden in the Belvedere Palace where he would propose, and cover informational signs in the…
