Our Response to October 7 and the War

When our 2024 fiscal year started on October 1, 2023, we were excited to begin celebrating the Technion’s centennial year with festive events throughout the country. We could never have conceived of the horrific events that would unfold in Israel only one week later. The Technion and the American Technion Society quickly pivoted to address the needs of a country and a student body at war.

Why We Give

“The Technion is at the forefront of innovation and science while being inclusive of all of Israel’s population. It’s about sharing knowledge to improve and save lives all over the world. And after October 7, I was inspired by the University’s commitment and support for its students and community.”

– Jenny Diamond, Potomac, Md.

“The Technion is such an important institution because it contributes to Israel’s technology and security sectors and is essential to the country’s survival and prosperity. I’m proud to continue funding the Leon and Israel Reiskin Memorial Prize in Architecture and Town Planning, founded by my father [Leon] in honor of his father [Israel]. Being awarded the Reiskin Prize is a goal students strive to achieve.”

– Matthew Reiskin, Bethesda, Md.

“The Technion is unique in its interdisciplinary research focus and how it promotes collaboration between industry and academia. I think this is key to its success in translating basic science findings into advances that make a difference to patients globally.”

– Deborah A. Roth, Durham, N.C.

“Money goes very far at the Technion versus other institutions. Israelis are scrappy and make things happen without enormous infrastructure and budgets. And unlike in the U.S., where there are many tech institutions, the Technion is the only one in Israel with this focus, which is so critical to the State of Israel.”

– Tim Gordon, New York, N.Y.

“October 7 and the subsequent war impacted our decision to increase our support of the Technion, including adding a legacy gift for the University’s future. We firmly stand with those who want to build a healthier world through the pursuit of research and education in medicine and technology, not those who pursue destruction. The Technion represents the best of what Israel stands for, and its successes repudiate the dark forces that would see it and Israel destroyed.”

– Ann and Richard Frankel, Philadelphia, Pa.
