Shaferman, an associate professor in the Stephen B. Klein Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, researches the guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) of autonomous aerial and space vehicles — such as missiles, unmanned air vehicles, and spacecraft. His research focuses on developing and analyzing algorithms for autonomous planetary entry, descent, and landing; optimal spacecraft interception, rendezvous, and docking; optimal spacecraft evasion from debris in orbit; and cooperative and one-on-one missile guidance, evasion, and tracking; among other topics.

Prof. Shaferman has completed multiple stints in the Israeli Air Force as an engineer, and supervisor, most recently as chief flight test engineer at the Israeli Air Force Flight Test Center from 2016–2019.

Prof. Shaferman holds three degrees in aerospace engineering from the Technion. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Vienna Institute of Technology, and he joined the Technion faculty in 2020. In addition to his appointment in the Technion’s aerospace faculty, he is a member of the Technion’s Asher Space Research Institute.
