American Technion Society (ATS) North Carolina offers events, networking sessions, and other ways to be a part of the incredible and incomparable effect the Technion has on Israel and the world. We want to engage our current supporters and newcomers with high-quality programs featuring our brilliant Technion professors, students, and alumni. ATS North Carolina serves supporters and alumni of the Research Triangle communities but is hoping to expand to the Wilmington and Charlotte communities in the coming years.

Why do I support the Technion when I have never lived in Israel and was not a student at this university? For so many reasons…. As an economic and scientific powerhouse, the Technion has been a source of pride for my family for over three generations. They understood the impact an institute of technology like this would have, not only on Israel, but also on the world. Founded in 1912, long before the establishment of the Jewish state, by such illustrious persons as Albert Einstein the Technion is the home of several Nobel Laureates and inventions such a RE-Walk and the Iron Dome. Despite the many honors it has earned and the many advances as it has made in the fields of technology, engineering, medical science and agriculture, fewer people than you might think have ever heard of it. The students and professors at the Technion come from all over the world, representing many different races, ethnicities and religions. This melting pot fits in with the story of Israel, the country that has survived through determination and thrived via innovation. There is no stronger expression in the education space of this link than Technion. Please join me in being an integral part in the history of a nation.

Our Triangle chapter is served by Mid-Atlantic Regional Director Irv Elenberg. He can be reached at 301.806.1795 and irv@ats.org. Additionally, we have a cadre of volunteer lay leaders located in and around the Triangle.

On November 17, 2020, a group of local leaders and donors participated in an exclusive interactive event spotlighting cutting-edge technologies launched at the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute in New York City. The Jacobs Institute fosters radical experimentation at the intersection of research, education, and entrepreneurship. We learned about the innovative digital technologies and leaders emerging from the Jacobs Institute and its Runway Startup Postdoctoral Program.

Unlike traditional academic departments, the Jacobs Institute is centered around three multidisciplinary industry-based hubs designed to spur new technologies in Connective Media, Health Tech, and Urban Tech. These hubs are built on the notion that to really know how innovation works, you need to make things — new technologies, new companies, and even mistakes. The Runway Program provides a pathway for Ph.D.s to become CEOs. To date, it has launched 29 startups, 23 of which are currently operating, attracting more than $93 million in private investment companies.

Please reach out to Irv Elenberg to learn more about our local programs.
