A look ahead at the strategies and technologies Israel will need to defend itself in a new Middle East

The year 2024 was one of seismic shifts in the Middle East with Hamas and Hezbollah degraded, the collapse of Syria, and the Iranian axis unbalanced. Former acting Israeli National Security Adviser Jacob Nagel is a visiting professor at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, where he leads the Advanced Defense Research Institute to promote high-value defense technology development. At the directive of the prime minister, he recently led the “Nagel Committee” to formulate a new national security doctrine, make recommendations on the IDF’s force-building needs, and plan the defense budget for the coming decade.
