In early March, a small group of American Technion Society National Board members traveled to Israel on a Solidarity and Science Trip in support of the students and faculty of the Technion. The intense three-day visit was deeply significant and profoundly memorable.

The group saw firsthand how the emergency funds raised by ATS help secure the campus and meet critical student needs, especially for the 3,500 students serving in the reserves. The board members met with students who had recently returned from military duty, including survivors of the Nova Music Festival and kibbutz massacres, and were moved by their stories of courage and resilience.

Mission participants met with medical students and faculty at the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine and toured the 2,000-bed fortified facility of its affiliated teaching hospital, the Rambam Health Care Campus. The hospital’s underground parking garage was designed to convert into a hospital in the event of war.

The final day solidified their already unbreakable solidarity with the Technion and Israel as they volunteered at Leket Israel, the National Food Bank; visited a grassroots pop-up memorial in Tel Aviv for the victims of October 7; toured the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation to discover the incredible story of Israel with an emphasis on the Technion’s impact; and had a deeply moving meeting at Hostages Square with family members of hostages.
