Rosalyn August serves on the ATS – South Palm Beach regional leadership council and the ATS National Board of Directors, and is a generous supporter of many Technion causes. In 2015, she launched the Rosalyn August Girls Empowerment Mission (GEM) — an outreach program at the Technion to support women in underrepresented fields of engineering. GEM sponsors the annual Tech Women event at the Technion, in which hundreds of female high school students from across Israel visit campus to meet with successful female scientists and engineers in academia and industry.
Ms. August is an exhilarating speaker who is passionate about sharing her success story with the students. Raised in a small town in Virginia before women’s liberation took hold, she had wanted to go into her father’s jewelry business but was told that business was a man’s world. Undeterred, she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Syracuse University and started her career as a school guidance counselor. Eventually, and with her father’s blessing, she opened an antique and estate jewelry business in Virginia, called the Diamond & Jewelry Exchange.
Now retired, Ms. August is living in Boca Raton with her partner, Joel Goodman (her husband Alan August is deceased), and introducing her children and grandchildren to the Technion.
