Technion, Zimin Foundation Expand AI-for-Medicine Partnership

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, a delegation from the Zimin Foundation visited the Technion, led by Foundation President Boris Zimin and including Augie Fabela, co-founder and business partner of late Dr. Dmitry Zimin, and Dr. Mark Shmulevich, Director of the Zimin Institutes.
During the visit, which marked a key milestone in AI-powered medical innovation at the Technion, Mr. Zimin unveiled a new plaque at the Zimin Institute for AI Solutions in Healthcare, which honors Dr. Dmitry Zimin and Mr. Boris Zimin and the inspiring legacy of the Zimin family.
The delegation met with Technion President Prof. Uri Sivan, who thanked the Zimin Foundation and said that “The Zimin Institute at the Technion drives the Technion Human Health Initiative’s vision—advancing human health through cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research powered by AI and emerging technologies. As a key hub linking academia, industry, science, engineering, and medicine, the Institute is set to spark breakthroughs that will transform healthcare in Israel and beyond.”
The delegation members met with Head of Public Affairs and Resource Development and Executive Vice President for Innovation and Industry Relations, Prof. Lihi Zelnik-Manor; Prof. Shie Manor from the Andrew and Erna Viterbi Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who is co-director of Tech.AI, the Technion Center for Artificial Intelligence, which manages Zimin activities at Technion; Prof. Idit Keidar, dean of the Viterbi Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering; and Technion researchers working in artificial intelligence in healthcare.
