Celebrating Two Remarkable Milestones

President Herzog on the Unmistakable Connection Between Israel and the Technion

As Israel celebrates its 78th year of independence, President Isaac Herzog invites us to look back with gratitude — and forward with confidence — by remembering where the story of the State of Israel truly began. Marking the 102nd anniversary of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology alongside Israel’s birthday, he highlights a deep and enduring connection: before there was a state, there was the Technion.

President Herzog speaks of Israel as a nation of dreamers — people who refused to accept the limits of their reality and instead insisted on creating something better through faith, curiosity, and relentless effort. That same spirit, he says, defines the Technion: an institution born with few material resources, but with extraordinary minds, determination, and belief in what was possible. “It was with these qualities that it forged a path forward and became a world-class institution — a thriving nerve center for creativity, innovation, and growth, and one of the finest academic institutions in the world.”

For President Herzog, celebrating Israel’s independence alongside the Technion’s anniversary is more than symbolic. It is a reminder that Israel’s strength — past, present, and future — flows from the same source: a people who choose knowledge, invest in education, and dare to dream.
