Energy: Nancy and Stephen Grand Technion Energy Program
As the world races to meet rising energy demand while reducing emissions, GTEP is training the talent needed to develop and scale the next generation of clean energy solutions for Israel and beyond.
What’s New?
Over the past year, GTEP launched a first-of-its-kind interdisciplinary energy curriculum designed to address urgent challenges in clean and emerging energy technologies. The program integrates real-world applications through courses co-taught with industry professionals and startups.
New Academic Pathways
- Master of Science and Ph.D. research tracks focused on decarbonization and energy storage
- A new non-thesis Master of Engineering (M.E.) track designed for rapid industry impact
Record Enrollment
Now in its third semester, GTEP supports more than 100 M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and alumni across its interdisciplinary energy programs.
The renewed graduate program is experiencing record enrollment, with strong growth and international interest.
Institutional Return on Investment
Researchers secured more than $8 million in external funding.
In February 2026, GTEP hosted a national hydrogen workshop convening 70+ participants from five Israeli universities.
Technology Spotlight
What if yesterday’s coffee grounds could help power tomorrow’s technologies? Researchers are developing ways to turn coffee waste into low-cost fuel cell catalysts that could replace expensive materials such as platinum. The approach could make clean, reliable energy systems more affordable for AI data centers, electric vehicles, and other energy-intensive applications.
