The Technion’s story has been intertwined with Israel’s for more than a century, from laying the foundations for a new nation to shaping its future.
In a groundbreaking seminar presented at a National Board Meeting of the American Technion Society, Prof. Shai Shen-Orr of the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine showcased his lab’s trailblazing efforts in harnessing computational tools and innovative methodologies to redefine our understanding of the immune system. A leading immunologist and director of the Zimin […]
Novocure (Nasdaq: NVCR), a global oncology company working to extend survival in some of the most aggressive forms of cancer by developing and commercializing its innovative therapy, Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields), visits the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square. The next century will see a global health revolution driven by ubiquitous access to advanced noninvasive diagnostic tools that enable real-time monitoring and early detection of diseases for billions of people across the globe. Nanorobots could revolutionize medicine and surgery by traversing the human body to conduct repairs and administer targeted treatments. Detecting Disease Before […]
In the next 100 years — and even in the next three to four years — there will be a huge advance in what we call alternative proteins. Rethinking What We Eat Instead of what we see in science fiction, where we’re flying into space and eating a bunch of pills, I think we will […]
The next 100 years in my field of bio-inspired engineering will be focused on early detection of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Right now, we might have the ability to treat cancer and we might have the ability to reduce the side effects — but can we detect it early, before it causes any harmful symptoms […]
For Technion undergraduate Nikol Seleznev, biomedical engineering is an exciting avenue through which to help patients overcome medical and mobility challenges — and the Technion is the perfect place to blend technology with medicine. The focus of her academic work in the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering is tissue engineering and biomechanics, an area she hopes […]
An international consortium focused on early diagnosis of schizophrenia, headed by Prof. Hossam Haick of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, has received a €8 million ($8.4 million) European Union grant, the Technion announces. The project, labeled VOLABIOS, “aims to develop advanced, cost-effective diagnostic tools that improve patient quality of life, reduce diagnostic errors by 30%, and optimize treatment and monitoring processes,” the press release says. The initiative involves cooperation between 20 research partners from 11 countries around Europe, including Aachen University in Germany, the University of Cambridge in the UK, the Greek Ministry of Health and the French company FIRALIS,…
Researchers at the Technion Faculty of Biology have identified potential new innovative genetic therapies for cancer and brain diseases. The findings were supported by the Israel Science Foundation (ISF), the US-Israel Binational Science Foundation (BSF), NSF-BSF Molecular and Cellular Biosciences, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and were published in the peer-reviewed journal Nucleic Acids Research. The study was conducted in collaboration with the research group of Professor Heather Hundley from Indiana University and was led by Ph.D student Berta Eliad, master’s student Noa Schneider, and their advisor, Associate Professor Ayelet Lamn.
This 3D-printed postmastectomy bra could be the next best breast prosthesis. Here’s how the technology works. Tal was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in the fall of 2019. She underwent chemotherapy, a mastectomy, and whole breast radiation. Tal wasn’t a candidate for reconstructive surgery, because radiation thinned her skin and reduced its elasticity. Determined to move on and regain confidence, she tried her first breast prosthesis at a hospital. “It was knitted and looked like a pillow,” she says. “It made me laugh because it looked nothing like a real breast.” U·Bra was co-developed by Technion Professor Yoav Sterman.
Even amid the chaos of war, Assistant Professor H.R. never let his scientific work falter. As a reservist in the Alexandroni Brigade, he was called up for duty on the morning of October 7. Yet, even while fighting on multiple fronts, he continued to fight for something else – the highly competitive European Research Council […]
